Best Museums of Kutch To Visit During Rann Utsav 2017

According to Wikipedia-“A Museum is an institution that cares for collection of artifacts and other objects of artistic, cultural, historical and scientific importance.” , and Kutch have a rich cultural and historical heritage. In Kutch there are various museums as mentioned below:

Kutch museum

It is among the oldest museum of Gujarat.  The museum was formed to preserve the gifts which were received during marriage of Maharao Khengarji III. It was established in 1877.

The museum exhibits various items ranging from ancient coins to musical instruments to embroidered textiles to weapons and much more. The main attraction is the Airavat(mythological elephant with seven tusks). The museum is collection of antiques, but Kutch museum grows along with technology. It is the first museum of India to become online virtual museum.

It takes around 45 minutes to roam around the museum. It is located opposite of Hamirsar lake Bhuj. It is closed on Wednesdays, on other days the timings are 10AM-1PM and 2:30PM-5:30PM

Kala Raksha Museum

As the name suggests, Kala means “art” and raksha means “to protect”. The Kala Raksha museum mostly exhibits the textiles from various communities of Kutch. Every community in Kutch has its own style in embroidering the cloth. Along with the various textiles there is a library which includes books on textiles and related topics; there are total of 200 volumes- among which many are rare.

Kala raksha is located at Sumrasar Dhori road, Sumrasar in Kutch. Visiting hours are 9AM-6PM. On Sundays timings are 10AM-12AM.

LLDC Museum

Living and Learning Design Centre

LLDC stands for Living and Learning Design Centre. It is the first live museum of Kutch, i.e. the collections of exhibition changes every 6 months. It is NGO- run museum, and that NGO is Shrujan. It showcases the 42 different styles of embroidery from various communities of Kutch such as Ahir, Rabari, Maghwal and many others. The most fascinating thing is there is also the Learning centre where the tourists can learn various form of embroideries, block printing, etc and also a shopping center to buy the essence of Kutch’s embroidery for your loved ones.

It is located at Bhachau Highway, Ajrakhpur in Kutch. It is closed on Mondays, and on other days the visiting hours are 10AM-6PM. Entry fee is Indian rupees 50.

Vande Matram Memorial

Vande Mataram Memorial Kutch, Bhuj, Gujarat

This is the India’s first 4D memorial dedicated to the Indian Freedom Struggle. It is merged with the very famous Heera Lakshmi Park. This memorial aims to abide the most exigent moment of the India’s freedom struggle right from 1857 to 1947. The primary structure is modeled like the Sansad Bhavan. It took over 4 years to build the structure on 100,000 square feet of land. These kind of memorial ensures that we don’t forget the sacrifices made by the freedom fighters and we all work together to make India a better place. The memorial also conducts the light show at the evening.

It is located at Bhujodi, Kutch.  Visiting hours are 10AM-6PM.
